Article Marketing Success - What I Have Learned from a Million Page Views

Here I want to share with you, what I have learned after generating over a million hits to my articles and how anyone can get great targeted traffic and enjoy article marketing success...

Quality

If you are writing an article you need to have quality material that's interesting and informative. There are a lot of people who will write you an article for $5 - 10 and there of no use to you, as the reader will soon see the material is poor and never click through. Ideally, write the article yourself and if you want to use a professional writer, then make sure their experienced in your field of expertise.

2 x Versions

Create two versions of the same article, this won't take you much longer than doing one. You simply keep the same topic and edit a second article form the first and change the headline. I can write an article in about 30 - 45 minutes and edit the same one in about 15, so 2 x articles should take you no more than an hour to write.

The first article is the one you want the search engines to pick up and rate and choose the best article directory for the field that you are writing in. Different directories rate higher or lower on different subjects and don't always assume the bigger the directory the higher it rates. Submit the article and then point links at. The more high quality links you have pointing at the article the better, so bookmark it and blog it.

The second article can be used to get traffic from the rest of the directories.

Submissions

When doing directory submissions forget about quantity, again go for quality.

You can submit to hundreds of directories - but it's simply not worth the time and effort, for the results you get back.

There are thousand of directories but only around 100 are worth bothering with.

I have spent considerable time building lists that only consist of about 30 directories - but I know they will pull significant traffic on my theme. For example, I have one directory with an Alexa ranking outside the top 100,000 yet it will give me as many hits, as directories in the top 5,000 on several subjects!

It's very much a question of trial and error, simply submit to a directory and see how it performs on your subject.

Headline

You Headline needs to be keyword rich at the start and punchy, to grab your readers attention. A long headline is better than a shorter one; it gives the search engine spider something to bite on and gives enough words for you to entice readers.

Format

The longer an article is (and I often see articles of 1,000 words or more) the more chance the reader will be distracted, get bored and click way. The ideal length is around 550 words and no more than 750.

Keep your teaser text short and to the point. All it needs to do is to tell them why they should read your article - you don't need any of the article content in it.

When you write the article do NOT use long paragraphs - people find this intimidating and will click away. Keep paragraphs to six sentences or less and break up the article, with eye catching sub heads and bullet points.

You must make your article easy to read, as they have to get to the resource box!

When you come to the concluding paragraph, start to pre close them to your site. For example, you can tell them of other articles you have written on related subjects and they will assume they are on your site and click through.

Resource Box

Make sure you have a headline which has a benefit to the reader and use the text to tell them exactly what they are going to get at your site.

Article readers want information, so free Pdf's are always good. Your resource box is your advert, so use it wisely. Stress the benefits of what you do and always have a high perceived free offer they can take advantage of.

Click Through Rates

Many article directories tell you how many people have clicked through to your site from your article and as a general rule, you should be getting at least 10% and preferably a 20% click through.

Bum Marketing Methods - How To Make Money By Doing Nothing

If there is a full page of Google AdWords results (11 sponsored links) then you most likely will not fair too well to begin with in this niche. Finding the right niche can be hard but once you do you should stick with it and watch the profits soar. Once you have a niche, all of your articles, webpages, sales pitches, etc. will become relevant to each other, and through this relevancy you can increase traffic and sales conversions across the board as you target new keywords. The key to bum marketing is getting organic traffic. While there are millions of marketers that manage to make money without organic traffic (traffic that comes naturally from search results as opposed to paying for advertising) you will need a solid base of organic traffic.

My personal steps for using bum marketing on various products:

  • Find a niche that isn't overly crowded that you can talk about.

  • Find products within the niche that are the right price and quality so that they will lead to sales and therefore commissions.

  • Research keywords that could be used to search for that specific product as well as general keywords that people would search for that may be willing to buy the product.

  • Build a Squidoo lens or a Blogspot blog for the product giving an unbiased review (I never sell products that don't work well, I refuse to scam people for money).

  • Build backlinks for the lens or blog, typically with a little bit of article marketing and purchasing a social bookmarking package from a SEO firm.

  • Promote products using social networks such as Facebook and MySpace, especially MySpace.

  • Watch the commissions roll in as I hit the front page of Google and Yahoo, and find ways to expand my product line using traffic from various sources.

Bum marketing or even affiliate marketing in general is not for everyone. In order for it to work, you must be patient, there is no other option. I started using bum marketing a few months back and now it is already paying large dividends for me. I'm currently a 19 year old freshman college student yet I am making enough money online to pay for my graduate school as well as a brand new car, hopefully this information will lead to your success as well. Your articles should have a take charge and commanding tone. Avoid use of the words "I" and "We" and focus instead on a conversational directive way of speaking. People find comfort in being told what to do from a confident, non-biased voice.

Write Articles for Cash - The Details

It seems like it would be a simple matter. Write an article of two and then sit back and wait for the cash to roll in. Like they say, LOL. In reality, there are a lot of details to take care of. And if you really want to be successful writing articles for income, you need to focus on these details.

1. First and foremost, you need to have a list of products that you like and can recommend. It doesnt matter if they are your own or affiliate items. For each of these products, you will need the web page where the item is available using plain text (http://blah blah blah) and the page listing in html using a href. I like to have both versions available so that I can quickly cut and paste the information when Im writing an article. If you are promoting eight items, you have sixteen listings to keep track of.

2. Are you using pre-sale pages? This is a soft sell page that lists a number of features and benefits of the product and provides a number of links to the item. If you are using pre-sale pages, you will need to list the web-address for each item. Again, you will need plain text and html versions.

3. For each item you are promoting, you need to know if they have free downloadable reports available. For each report, you will need 2 web addresses, one plain text and one html.

4. If you are using affiliate products, you will need to know the web-address, your username, and password for each product you promote.

5. I like to keep track of how my articles are performing. In order to do this, I have two excel spreadsheets that I update every morning. These spreadsheets tell me which article directories are sending me the most traffic, which articles are getting the most page views, which articles are being published the most, and where Im getting the most URL Clicks. It sounds like a lot of work, and it is, but it is worth it.

So, if we are selling eight products, according to my count, that is about 80 details that we have to keep track of. Wow! I use a word document called Product to keep track of all that information. I post each item separately and list all of the details previously mentioned just below it.

By using this method, I can quickly and easily reference an item and use either the plain text or html version (depending on which method the site requires) of the address that I want to use in my article. If you take care of the details, the details will take care of you.

Earn Cash Writing Articles - Easy as 1-2-3

Article writing is as easy as 1-2-3!
1) The opening paragraph gives your qualifications or grabs the reader and almost compels him or her to read further.
2) Your article will contain just two or three facts.
-Fact 1) Perfect grammar is not a necessity.
-Fact 2) The number of words in the typical article.
-Fact 3) Separate each paragraph.
3) The closing paragraph summarizes the article and provides a link to your site.

Many people are reluctant to write articles because they think it's too difficult. That's nonsense. Article writing is actually quite easy once you know the three-step formula (above). Others are reluctant to write because they do poorly with grammar or spelling. Do you need to use perfect grammar in your articles? Certainly not, but some sites will refuse to print your work if it is riddled with errors. Fortunately, there is a way around this for those that are grammatically challenged. Most of the word processors available today come with a spelling AND grammar checker. You should make full use of both of these features.

The ideal article contains just 500-600 words. Many submission sites will not accept articles with less than 500 words and will refuse those with more than 1000 words. In addition, it is sometimes difficult to keep a reader's interest if it is over 700 or 800 words. (They didn't come to the site to read a novel.) For that reason, I try to make sure that all of my articles have around 500 words.

Break your article up into a number of different paragraphs and separate each one by a space. This makes your article more pleasing to the eye. This is important because your readers will make his or her first judgment about your article based on the way it looks. And like anything else, you want your reader to have a good first impression.

Your first paragraph or two should tell the reader about your qualifications or entice him or her to read further. This is called 'the hook'. In this piece, we are using a "hook" instead of the qualifications. Our hook lets the reader know that there is a formula to writing articles and we will divulge this information in the article.

The next paragraph or two should discuss the facts, information, or points you wish to make. Each of these paragraphs should discuss the benefits as well as features. The benefits will grab the reader and let him know why it is important to him.

Close the article with an offer for more information by clicking your link. I prefer to use a free information offer as many more people will click through for a free report. If instead, you ask readers to: 'Visit our site for more information,' only about one third as many readers will click through. For that reason, I prefer the following: For more information on the subject, download our FREE REPORT at YOUR-SITE-NAME.

2007 Mangled Online Articles and Google Search Engine

Some would be website owners enjoy the syndication of online articles and gleefully post these articles on their websites. Then they put up Google Adsense advertisements and immediately start collecting trickle payments.

However a problem has arisen where these website owners use programs to collect articles and then post them on their websites, which is a good idea, unless they program mangles the articles, which is what is happening now. Further the website owners who do this do not care to fix the problem because they know if Internet Readers do not enjoy the mangled articles then they are five times as likely to click on a link to go somewhere else.

If the Internet Surfer clicks on an AdSense Ad the website owner wins monetarily and therefore builds more websites with more botched and mangled articles on it. It would be nice if the "Google-Ologists" re-develop their spider programs and algorithms to remove these types of sites from the first 10 pages of their search returns, as that would certainly dampen these perpetrators.

As I study the various types of search engines and their techniques it is too bad sometimes that Google has such a large percentage of the market, as other search engines often provide better results for the user. But it is all about marketing for Google. And with their research department, I cannot believe that they are not looking into this, but the slowness to respond is bothersome and telling of a future bureaucracy.

I would imagine that riding the next peak of Googles stock would be wise, but then selling it all, as it moves up quickly, because if this continues and Google does not adapt to the new climate and environment of these scam type Google Adsense manipulators then all will be lost.

Of course in saying that; Shareholders Equity and Quarterly Profits are indeed a driver for stock price and if Google gets rid of these sites in the top tier search return pages then, they will temporarily lose profits in that quarter.

Catch-22 for them, although really and this is just in my opinion both the Internet and Google are at risk long-term if they do not. So this is a time for Wiki-Search, Ask.com, Yahoo, MSN, etc to go for it and make hey and capture marketshare while Google attempts to hold up this impossible stock price.

And to that point and for anyone who does not remember the DotCom crash, well lets just say that their personal stock portfolios are doomed during the repeat, even if the scenario is only a dip for the over all Internet Stocks, it may not be for Google. Just thinking outloud and watching the Road Ahead, which looks more like a runway if some other company can capitalize on the failure of Google to right this problem. Copy and paste or type in the first keyword or key phrase on your list. A list of up to 100 keywords will come up based on what you entered. Now, take this list and copy and paste to notepad.

Save this document, giving it a name related to the seed keyword you entered.

From this list of keywords, you can select the hyper linked key phrase and then you are shown a list of up to another 100 keyword phrase for that keyword phrase.

Simply complete the above steps with each list, progressively "drilling down" to the more highly-targeted keywords.

Some of these may be clearly unrelated to your niche or product. Discard them. If there are any real general keywords that may apply in a number of other areas, then discard those, as well.

Once completed, this process should give hundreds, if not thousands of keywords to work with. With this list you can learn much more about your competition and determine the best strategy to market and grow your online business.

What Types Of Articles Should You Write?

To begin, are you aware that there are different types of articles? Of course there are! There are a total of 5 types of articles, namely the tips article, the story article, the personal experience article, the facts article, and the recommendation article. Lets take a closer look at each of them.

The tips article, as its name suggest, is an article that provides tips on a particular subject, such as playing golf or designing and sewing dresses. An example would be What Golf Does to Your Body would be a facts article, because you can draw facts from medical science and research, to provide a comprehensive content and back that content up with scientific proof.

Lastly, we have the recommendation article. Such articles are used to promote a product, but the content of the article must be informative in nature. For example, if you are recommending junior golf clubs, start by informing how the high quality, unique junior golf club can raise the kids interest level and have a great game of golf. Most importantly, use you own experience to show your satisfaction on how your kids can have more fun playing golf. Remember, do not get too salesman-like in the article.

Usually, writers combine different types of articles into one article. It is encouraged but watch out that you do not run over 750 words in length. The objective is to choose the article, which you want to convey your message and to get the readers visit your web site.
